Factors that influence the digital divide in secondary education in the municipality of Ixtlahuaca, state of Mexico

Abstract

This article aims to identify the factors associated with the digital divide in secondary education in the municipality of Ixtlahuaca, State of Mexico. The research was conducted using a quantitative approach, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional design and a descriptive-correlational scope. Structured questionnaires were administered to 628 students and 278 teachers from the 44 secondary schools in the municipality. The results show inequalities in access to, use of, and application of ICTs, associated with economic resources, infrastructure, equipment, geographic location, and a deficit in digital skills and competencies. The study concludes that reducing the digital divide requires comprehensive strategies aimed at strengthening technological infrastructure, connectivity, equipment, and digital training in rural and semi-rural contexts.
