Rural and peasant housing is much more than a place of residence; it represents the home, identity, and culture of agricultural communities. In a world where urbanization is advancing rapidly, it is vital to recognize the importance of these dwellings not only as physical structures but also as key elements in preserving traditions and fostering social development. This article is an effort to conceptualize adequate housing in rural areas. To this end, it reviews various authors and case studies that conceptualize living in rural communities, starting from a historical-evolutionary perspective of human needs and ways of conceiving space—in this case, housing as a place to satisfy reproductive and productive needs. It also reflects on housing policies implemented in rural environments.
