Abstract

This article analyzes the evolution of trade between Mexico and South Korea during the period 2000 2024 in the manufacturing and food sectors. The study quantifies bilateral trade flows, and the results reveal a persistent trade deficit for Mexico, driven primarily by imports of machinery, electronics, and automotive components from Korea. However, the relationship has strengthened, transforming Mexico into a strategic supplier of automotive and electronic parts for South Korean industry. In the food sector, Mexico mainly exports animal and plant products, while importing processed foods from South Korea. The article concludes that the bilateral relationship has evolved toward deeper integration into global value chains, generating both socioeconomic opportunities and challenges for both economies.
