Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to present the results of research conducted on the automotive assembly industry in Mexico, the United States, and Canada. The objective is to determine the effect of vehicle exports on the competitiveness of the automotive industry in these three countries during the period 2000–2021, as measured by the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) index. This index compares the value of a product's exports from a given country to that country's total exports worldwide, and these values are then compared among the aforementioned countries under study. The research hypothesis is that vehicle exports have had a positive effect on the competitiveness of the automotive industry in Mexico, the United States, and Canada during the period 2000–2021. The Balassa index was used to determine the RCA, and the results allowed for the identification of the competitive level of the analyzed countries.
