Abstract

This research aims to analyze the political and electoral violence faced by a female activist during and after her candidacy for elected office in the municipality of Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico. The method employed was a qualitative approach, using a grounded theory design, and the techniques used were semi-structured interviews and document review. The sample includes a candidate for elected office during the 2020-21 electoral process in one of the municipalities with the highest rates of violence in the region. The results show, as the literature indicates, that mayoral positions are the most challenging for women and that violence is a structural and symbolic phenomenon that continues to affect women's political participation.
