El trasfondo de los éxitos materiales de la migración internacional: el caso de los migrantes mexiquenses

Resumen

Los estudios sobre migración de retorno muestran con frecuencia los éxitos o desventuras de los migrantes, pero no los conjuntan con las fricciones y contradicciones que implican los logros materiales e inmateriales que ellos obtienen. Sin embargo, durante la migración se afrontan diversos reveses, que si bien los migrantes pueden superar y hasta sacar beneficios de esos episodios, es evidente que al retorno traen consigo diversas secuelas (enfermedades, fracturas, religiosidad, separación marital, vivencias de muerte). Estos eventos que no suelen ser visibles, forman el trasfondo del éxito (poseer una casa, hablar otro idioma, tener negocio, traer conocimiento laboral), es lo que se explora en este trabajo. Con este fin, se toma como referencia una muestra no aleatoria de migrantes en el Estado de México y el análisis se sustenta en sus propios testimonios.

Studies on return migration often show the successes or failures of migrants, but do not combine them with the frictions and contradictions that imply the material and immaterial achievements they obtained. However, during the migration several obstacles are faced, that although migrants can overcome and even take some advantage of them, it is evident that they bring with them various consequences (illnesses, fractures, religiosity, marital separation, death experiences). These nonvisible events constitute the background of different successes (owning a house, speaking another language, having business, bring ing work knowledge), this is explored in this work. To this aim, a non-random sample of migrants is taken as a reference in the Estado de Mexico and the analysis is based on their own testimonies.
